cupcakes. they are my thing.
they are yummy and cute and pretty and they are like a universal symbol for celebration and happiness. like some people are passionate about politics or animal rights or greenpeace...i am passionate about cupcakes. and harry potter. and kim kardashian. but that's a discussion for a different day.
i posted here about my favorite cake recipe. and i totally stand by it. they are so good and it's hard to pay $3.75 per cupcake at a specialty shop. if i'm paying $20 for six cupcakes, they better knock my socks off.
we celebrated ava's first birthday last weekend with a family party (that post is coming soon and ohhh it is sweet) but her actual birthday fell on a wednesday this year and we wanted to make it special. she came down with her first cold ever a couple days before, which was really sad for me...but baby girl didn't let it rain on her parade! we took her to the irvine spectrum to ride the carousel and get a cupcake. or six cupcakes. and maybe she wouldn't even eat one because apparently she is a vegan and only eats fruit. but hey, i ate myself a cupcake or two and i didn't even feel bad about it because i kind of believe her birthday is maybe an equal celebration of me. um hi, i birthed her. remember that? yeah, she came out of my body. i am a freaking miracle, hello!
anyway, back to the point.
casey's cupcakes. they are good! and they are beautiful! edible glitter and pretty sprinkles and the store is gorgeous pink with crystal chandeliers and black and white accents. it's a princess cupcake store. but here's the catch: they are expensive and the cake is crumbly. like instead of the cake coming out of the cupcake wrapper cleanly, all six of our cupcakes crumbled. which is probably fine if you are a normal person, but if cupcakes are your thing, you are not down for crumbles.
the buttercream frosting is not too sugary and i think it has a tiny tinge of almond in it which is nice. the red velvet is not too rich (i hate to say it but i think that the cupcake masters at sprinkles make their red velvet a little too rich) and the cream cheese frosting is lovely. my favorite was their confetti cupcake, which is just a vanilla cake with sprinkles and a vanilla buttercream, but let it be known that i have a thing for white cake and in the hierarchy of vanilla cupcakes, casey's rates below sprinkles.
sooo...anyway...is this embarrassing that i just wrote all that about cupcakes? kind of? okay. my bad.
i just like them a lot...
do you think i'm weird now...?
well...at least my baby is cute.
